
The 4th Annual
SmartPhone Storyfest!
This filmmaking competition challenges participants to create a five minute video using only their smartphone, prioritizing narrative, editing technique, and innovation over equipment and budgets.
This year's theme is:
What does it mean to be triumphant?
Is triumph found in winning? Losing with grace?
Or simply surviving to tell the tale?
Submissions open on March 28th
Deadline is April 12th
Rules

All submissions must be the original work of the applicants using a smartphone with the exception of the Non SmartPhone Category.

All music, images, titles, footage, and other copyrighted material used in your submission must be properly licensed.

Theme should be focused on “Expanding Your Creativity”.

Director, producer, screenwriter, and cinematographer must be Emerson students
-
No outside professional help allowed.
Eligibility

Must be an Emerson student (Grad students included).

Must use a smartphone (Tablets are included).
-
No age requirement.
-
Directors, producers, and cinematographers must be Emerson students.

Group work is not only allowed, but encouraged!

Films must have been created between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.

Entries must be a video. Stop motion Animation is included.
Guidelines

Filmmakers should make a note of trigger warnings or disclaimers when submitted.

Length of film submissions must be no more than 5 minutes (including title and credits).

All production costs are at the expense of the creators.

Submissions can be in vertical or horizontal format.
Judging Criteria
-
Narrative, the most crucial element of any film!
-
Execution of artistic vision, or technical clarity.
-
Adherence to the theme.
-
Members of Common Collective hold a vote to bestow the People's Choice Award.

Judges and hosts have the right to disqualify any entry.
